Forest Village
Springfield, MO
Forest Village is a project undertaken by what
is currently known as the Forest Institute of Professional Psychology. Proposed for this 50+ acre development are
a psychology school building (now complete), townhouses, hi-rise apartments for the elderly, skilled care facilities,
and community facilities. The school facility focuses on the psychological and pastoral care of the elderly. Eventually,
students will assist in the care of those living in the community. This first building is 43,000 sq. ft., ADA accessible,
with classrooms, administrative offices, library, and multi-media auditorium. Project cost was approx. $3.2M ($75/sq.ft.)
inclusive of new roads and utilities to the property.
This organization very much takes advantage of
modern teaching technologies. The centerpiece of the school is a library with computer terminal access to the school's
main computer. The multi-media auditorium is designed with power and data outlets at each seat for students' laptop
computers to be connected into the main computer during lectures and for direct downloading of class related information.
Mechanical controls within the building are designed around the BACNet standard to allow centralized and remote
monitoring of the building environment. Eventually, all buildings in the development will be tied into this system.
