The detention area provides 20 cells for male and female juvenile offenders, classrooms, dining and kitchen facilities, dayroom, exercise room/basketball court, offender processing, and exterior secure courtyard. The office area provides court offices and a courtroom. County maintenance officials maintain that juvenile offenders are more destructive than their adult counterparts. For that reason, cells contain a concrete cast-in-place bench/bed, stainless steel penal style toilet/lavatory with drinking fountain bubbler, and flood-proof pneumatic pushbutton valves. Plumbing systems are designed such that a clog in one cell will not produce an overflow or backup in other cells. Cell floors, walls, and ceiling are all cast-in-place concrete. An additional approx. 8,000 sq. ft. of basement space originally used for storage and mechanical systems has recently been remodeled for additional offices.
